The last 50 years, the YWCA of the Upper Lowlands, Inc. has been providing services in the community. In 2016, we served a total of 286 victims and provided awareness through 105 community presentations and trainings for 8,217 people in our community, and there is so much more to do. Since 1967, the YWCA of the Upper Lowlands, Inc., located in Sumter, SC, provides quality-focused, culturally relevant services which empower women and their families to achieve self-sufficiency. We implement the following programs: Domestic Violence, Senior Services and Service Coordination, Batterer’s Intervention, Y-Cap (YWCA Career Assistance Program), YWCA Sister’s Closet to help women dress for success, DEW (Deposits Empowering Women) Children’s Advocacy, Parenting, Prevention Education.
The YWCA of Upper Lowlands operates and maintains two facilities: The Battered Women’s Shelter and the administration/service facility at 246 Church Street. Your contribution would help to ensure uninterrupted services and will make a positive difference in the lives of the women, children and families we serve.
The YWCA Safe House has provided services to women, children and families in Sumter, Lee Clarendon and outlying counties since 1967. The Safe House Shelter operates 24 hours, 365 days of the year. Other services include victim advocacy, legal services, victim counseling services/ support groups, referrals, clothing, food, transportation, housing, rent and utility deposits, job assistance, case management and help with relocation.
